Coarse-Ground Coffee Beans

There's been much discussion on whether light, medium or dark roast makes the best cup of cold brew. I usually go for medium but think its personal preference. What is non-negotiable is regardless of whether you buy pre-ground coffee at the store or grind the beans yourself at home, you want to make sure that the final product is coarse enough to be caught by the filter and broken up enough to filter easily into the water.
A French Press
We go into more detail about different types of French press in the "Parts of the French Press" page. Regardless of your chosen model, you'll want one with a good filter that doesn't let any of the tiny coffee particles escape into your filtered concentrate. This creates a grittier final product and more work for you, when you'd much rather just be enjoying the fruits of your labor.

Water
Some people say you should only use filtered water, some say it has to be ice cold. Those people might not agree but in my personal experience, as long as you have water that hasn't been warmed, it should all work the same.
Mixing Utensil
This can be large or small, a spoon or a spatula. The importance with this is that it helps incorporate the grounds into the water. Submerging all of the grounds means maximum steeping and will result in a stronger brew - which results in you getting your money's worth.
Storage Container

Any type of container will do - as long as it has a lid that can be sealed well. This will prolong the shelf-life of your cold brew and ensure better tasting results. Coffee might be an acquired taste but no one likes a stale cup.
Wet vs Dry Measuring Cups
Technically, liquid and dry measuring cups hold the same volume, but they are specifically designed to more accurately hold their respective ingredients. Liquid measuring cups have measuring lines well below the rim, so you have room for ingredients to slosh a bit without spilling. Dry measuring cups allow users to pack ingredients to the brim and level off to get the most accurate measurement. You will need both to get the most accurate measurement of both the coffee grounds and water.
